At this workshop, representatives of the Liechtenstein Power Plants (LKW) and the Rheintal IX Association will discuss the status of the Internet in Liechtenstein. On the one hand, Liechtenstein should be one of the first countries in the world with a nationwide fiber optic network by the end of 2022, and on the other hand, a nationwide ring connection should be achieved around Lake Constance.

Fast and stable internet connections are of particular importance for an attractive economic area. For this reason, Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke (LKW) is pushing ahead massively with the expansion of the digital infrastructure. Currently, more than three quarters of all households and companies in Liechtenstein are already connected to the fiber optic network. The goal is for Liechtenstein to be one of the first countries in the world with a nationwide fiber optic network by the end of 2022.

Internet nodes play a special role in cross-border data traffic. They serve the exchange of data between Internet providers or larger company networks. For this purpose, the Rheintal IX Association operates an Internet node in the Rhine Valley and Lake Constance region and is currently present at five locations in Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Almost all Internet providers and larger companies in Liechtenstein use the infrastructure of the association. The aim of Rheintal IX is to achieve a comprehensive ring connection around Lake Constance in order to be able to guarantee a greater reliability of the Internet.
